I’m setting up a new 75 gallon. I have a 25 gallon I plan on stealing filter media from to get my cycle going. I’m going to use 2 aqua clear 70 filters at each end. I did look into the canister one but I’m afraid of it leaking. And although it’s rare it could happen and we travel a lot in the summer for the wknds and that scares me to come home to water everywhere. Now the heater. I was looking into a 300 watt to put between the 2 filters. Or do I do a smaller maybe 150 next to each filter and run 2 heaters? Which would be a better option?

If I’m stealing filter media from my 25 gallon can I add my existing 2 rainbows from my 25 to my 75? They’re still pretty small but I know they’d love to get out of the 25 and swim freely. What’s the soonest fish can be added?

When I set up my 25 gallon the fish store just told me to add the bottle of start up. Run for 3 days and add fish. And while that did seem to work at first I did run into some problems along the way and learned about having to adjust my water. From ich to other illnesses and a horrible brown algae outbreak....I’ve prevailed and my 25 gallon has been doing great for about a year. Just water changes and vacuuming and all my fish are doing great!

So now taking on this monster tank has me a bit worried. But I know I’ll be good once it’s going. Any advice would be appreciated.

As long as it is just the two rainbow to start with, and you are using cycled media, it should be fine. I use pre cycled media for all of my new tanks.
