I have a spare tank, and as i've been wanting a mudskipper for ages i thought i may as well use that and get it finally So, i thought i'd try here for advice rather than the LFS, so can anyone tell me exactly how i need to go about setting the tank up. What lighting do they need? Salt? How much of the tank needs to be under water and how much needs to be dry? Can they live on their own? What do they eat?
20 Gal would be big enough for one . You want at least half of the tank out of water ideally and the tank should have a tight lid to keep up the humidity. They are a brackish/marine fish but aren't overly fussed with the salinity level, although they are messy fish and so water changes would need to be done regularly enough. They eat pretty much anything, pellets, frozen bloodwor and gamma fish etc. Just bare in mind they are the kind of fish that WILL bite you if you put your hand in the tank, so if you are ok with getting nipped at feeding time then thats ok
I would have happily provided any of this info if asked...
Ooh, sorry Ben! Didn't know you knew about Mudskippers as well, they train you well
I actually came into Aquatic Habitat Monday (??) and i think it was Rob showed me the mudskipper tanks you have there and it looks fairly easy to set up. He told me what filters i would need and stuff so i should be able to come down there when i want to set it up and you guys can tell me exactly what i need! It wont be until i've done my exams in like, a month though! Im going to have enough trouble looking after my current tanks and revising..
And Ben.. I have parrots, im used to being bitten at feeding time
