my betta has fallen ill with fin rot, so today i bought him his own 5 gallon tank, as some of u said my other tank was over crowded.
ive basically set the tank up like a proper aquarium i.e backing, gravel and an aqua flow filter.
my local pet store sold me "waterlife myxazin" for the fin rot, is this product any good for repairing the fins?

the poor guy seems to be getting worse :(

is there anything else i could do to help him

Actually, your hospital tank should be bare. And for him, just set the water to about 4 inches. You may add a couple of fake plants fot him to rest on near the surface. For filtering, I suggest a sponge filter. No carbon unless you are changing meds and require to clean the water aside from water changes. The bare bottom makes it easy cleaning (using a turkey baster to siphon out the refuse).

shall i turn the filter off? how do i find out if its carbon, im pretty sure its a sponge filter. ive reduced the water level down to around 4 inches , i dont like plastic plants , ive only got real ones, would one of these be ok? and what would be the best temperature for the tank. sorry about the questions im a complete newb

Got a picture of your filter? A sponge filter shouldn't cause too much, if any, current. A little movement is ok.

You need to make the environment as sterile as possible. A live plant won't help achieve this aim.

Temperature for a betta? Depends on what type of sickness or infection. In general, probably 79F to 83F.
