I've just ordered a 30 gallon tall aquarium off the internet (it'll be my 4th tank I have now) and I was wondering about stocking.
Could, in a tank that is heavily decorated and planted, Senegal Bichirs and African Dwarf Frogs be kept together or would the ADFs end up mince meat?
I'm not sure about it, as most of the Senegals I've kept have been very peaceful. The one I have currently, in my other 30 gallon, was originally kept with some Lemon Tetras and Loaches, and they got along great. Then I added the Marbled Sand Goby. Dumb idea. The goby ate ever fish within 3 days.
So, would 2 or 3 Senegals (1 male w/ 2 females. I'm hoping on breeding them. . . . ) get along with 8 or 9 African Dwarf Frogs along with the following:
6x Boesmani Rainbow Fish
2x Bristlenose Plecostomus (1 Pair)
4x Bronze Corydoras
1x Twig Catfish
??

I have a few days until I get the tank, so stocking is still changeable.

my gut response would be that actually seems like a lot of fish for a 30 gallon high, and especially, a lot of bottom dwellers. i would think that there would be territory issues with three senegals, let alone three of them, two BNs, four cories, eight ADFs, and a twig cat. also, i've heard twig cats are delicate so you may want to look into them some more, and i would be worried that a full grown senegal would try to eat a cory, and you'd end up with two dead fish because of the cory's spines.

in my 29g long i currently have boesmanis in with a juvie bichir and at 4-5 inches she's already making me nervous though she's never so much as looked at them. They aren't at full size and i've never seen full grown boesmanis in person, but since they grow slowly (so i've been told), and bichir's grow fast (which i'm witnessing), it's a potential problem. I'll definately be moving mine soon.

my bichir is not exactly an aggressive fish towards other fish, but she's rapidly approaching a size where swallowing an ADF if she caught hold of one would not be an issue. i don't think you're supposed to keepl anything under 5-6 inches with a senegal, unless it's too broad bodied to be swallowed. And even then there's no guarantee that the bichir wouldn't try anyway.

Okay, I just wanted to double-check.
In my experience with Senegals, they've been quite peaceful, so I'm not sure. I still want to have 3 Senegals, as I want to attempt breeding them.
So, are there any other bigger schooling fish that stay small? I know that's an oxy-moron, but who cares.
Or, would it be better if I'm going to try to breed them to have the tank just have 3 Senegals and 2 Bristlenose Plecs?

According to CFC's Senegal care sheet here, it says a 30's plenty big. Besides, the site I ordered off of has 30 gallons with funky sizes. The one I bought is 48 x 12½ x 13". I misspelled earlier, it's a 30 gallon long not 30 gallon tall. It's 4 feet long, which is plenty big for a small group of Senegals.

I dont think 30 gallons is enough for a senegal as they grow over a foot. They will eat adfs.

Did you order the tank from glass cages? Because if you did, you might be disappointed. Many people have complained about their sloppy work, and some people's tanks have arrived broken. One person bought a 250g that burst after he filled it up.... just a fair warning.

A 30 gallon long can house 1, not 3. The adfs will do just fine until the senegals get hungry. If the tank is already 4 feet long, why not just get a 55?

I would use the empty 55 gallon in our basement, but my dad wants to turn it into a semi-aquatic habitat.
I might go for a 55 gallon anyway. Would 3 Senegals be fine in a 55? The only tankmates would be a pair of Bristlenose Plecs.

I dont think 3 would be ok, maybe 2. Rememeber the sengals will eat the adfs, if your still planing on them being together.

Two should be fine, but 3 is like pushing it. Take pictures of the breeding process, itll be awesome to see some bichirs being bred in a tank like that. What else are you planning to stock it with?
