I currently have 6 Danios and I don't intend to add any more fish for awhile, but I would like to get some suggestions so I can start looking to see what is available locally (I cannot afford to pay huge amount for shipping for fish.)

My tank is still cycling, but the temp stays consistantly at 78-80F...I would not be surprised if it raises a little bit higher during the summertime as I am in Florida and in a mobile home and it does tend to get pretty warm in the afternoons inside.

The PH from the tap is 8.0 and in my tank it is either 7.8-8.0...I can't tell the colors apart very well, but I do intend to take a sample to my LFS before I buy any more fish just to double check my readings.

I believe the actual dimensions of the tank are 30"x12"x18". There are some new plants in it that seem to be growing, but are still fairly small.

My husband has suggested platies, red tailed shark, swordtails, glass catfish and plecos because that's what he apparently had and liked when his mom had an aquarium.

I never had fish before and my preference is for coloful, peaceful fish. I am a sucker for Bettas and Guppies cause I think they are lovely, and yes I know they don't mix well =/ I also like several of the gouramis, the rainbow fish, the glofish and the endler's and I love angel fish.

So anyhow, any suggestions would be welcome so I can start checking things out and start keeping an eye out for what I want in stores whenever my tank is ready for more fishies.

Thanks!

The fish youve mentioned will not mix well Im afraid so you need to pick combinations that will work well. Angels, red tailed sharks and bettas are all very terratorial and often aggressive so their tank mates need to be picked very carefully. In fact bettas are really not suitable community fish IMO. Many plecs also get very big so you just need to sure on the eventual adult size of the species you go for. Glass catfish are very peaceful fish, as are guppies and rainbows and need a much quieter tank. You really need to decide on one or two species that you definitely want, make sure they are suitable for your tank in terms of size and school size needed. Then build suitable companions around them. Post any stocking ideas here and we'll try to help.

:hi: to TFF by th way

Harlequin Rasbora (5-6)
(Colisa lalia) Dwarf Neon Blue Gourami ( 1 male plus 1-2 females)

These are my favourates. The Rasbora are mid tank dwellers and dart to the surface when feeding. Dwarf Gourami need good water conditions (as with all fish). Males are colourful...here's mine

I know they won't all go together. I am trying to figure if any of them will and in which combinations and to get ideas on similar looking/types of those mentioned to help make my decisions on what to actually buy =) The only fish that I am set on currently is the Long Finned Zebra Danios that I already have. I have 6 of those.

Thank you for the welcome!

That's a cute looking fish! Do you think they would get along okay with my hyperactive Danios?

Here is an idea that would make a good set-up. All would take similar water qualities.
Now these are just what I would consider.

Top area: African Butterfly fish (Pantadon buchholzi)

Middle area: Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid (Apistogramma cacatuoides)

Bottom area: 3-5 Zebra Loach (Botia striata)

Bottom area: 3-5 Cories (Corydoras ________)

Shouldn't be a problem. I am also having dwarf gouramis, and they are thriving well in pH 8. Just make sure you don't put too many males together, as these fish are territorial. They are only territorial towards each other though. No problem with other fish. The rule of thumb is 1 fish/10 gallon.
