Seeding New Tank With New Filter

Well I want to set up a goldfish tank is the next month and was thinking I could seed a filter in my main 29 gallon tank. I went out and bought a Aquaclear 30 power filter and set it up on my 29 gallon and want to know how long it needs to sit there before I can use it. The current stock of the 29 gallon is:

1 Platy
1 Keyhole
1 Opaline Gourami
7 Coolie Loach
1 Upsidedown Catfish
1 BN Pleco

Also how much room do I have left in this 29 gallon. I assume I have a good amount of space to add more but am looking for suggestions on how much more. Lastly when the new filter is ready for my next tank (also a 29 gallon) I plan to but 2 juvinile Fancy Goldfish so the load would be smaller.

Give the new filter about 6 weeks to fully mature.
