So I just moved my betta Fin into a new larger bowl, one I bought for my other sick betta who just died. I cleaned the bowl thoroughly, and rinsed it out with hot hot tap water for about two days to make sure all soap/germs were gone. Now I was previously using the office water cooler to fill the tank, but thought I noticed slight black granules in the dead fish's old bowl, which I think may have contributed to his organ failure (dropsy) and may have come from the filtered water, like when you use a Brita filter. So I'm trying tap water (with 2 drops deChlor per gallon) for Fin.
However, I live in Southern California (Los Angeles) and can see a distinct white sediment in the bottom of the bowl now. Enough that it moves a bit when Fin swims directly over it. Is this dangerous? Is this a result of "hard" water? How can I fix it, if necessary?
