Hi,

I have a brand new marine setup.

Not stocked yet, just wondering if seahorses were ok with other fish or best on their own.

How hard are they to keep???

Thanks!

Usually best kept on their own. While there are anecdotal successes of keeping them with certain fish, I wouldnt do it

Seahorses are a fairly difficult fish, as far as marine fish go. The main issue with them is food.

Although some tank-raised individuals will learn to take frozen foods, nearly all wild-caught and some tank-raised seahorses will need to be fed live foods, multiple times daily, for their entire lives.

They are also slow, but steady, hunters who I've seen spend an hour+ tracking down one shrimp before eating it successfully. Most tankmates, even when they're not agressive TO the seahorses, would much rather steal the seahorses' live food than eat frozen or flake food that is SUPPOSED to be their diet. And seahorses are so passive they won't fight or even compete for their food, so it's easy for them to starve to death even while the tank is being well-fed.
