im thinking of getting a small pink seahorse from my LFS and my question is are they hard to care for. I have a 30 gallon with just 2 fish in it, clown and yellow tail demsel. Just wondering if it is relitively easy to care for or would be killed.

I would read up alot on seahorses. Usually damsels are too agressive to be kept with seahorses. but definatly dont buy it without first knowing everything you can about it.

Don't just go buy on a whim. Read up on them first if you want some in the future- but you don't know what species the seahorse is, where it came from, etc. Damsels and clowns are also really bad tankmates.

If your interested later on trying them, check out seahorse.org. I know I keep posting this forum address, but it's the best place to start with these fish.

Seahorses are harder than other fish at times, in certain conditions, but are hardy when conditions are right- and you know what your doing. One of the biggest downfalls is the many problems that can hit them, and diseases are often a huge deal, rather than something as simple as ich in a regular tank.

There is a great profile on the reidi species of seahorse in the profile section.

Most of it goes for some of the more common seahorses in the trade (erectus and kuda). The key to seahorses is research and knowledge.
