Since the only way I could possibly get a tank downstairs would be to have seahorses, I've done a bit of looking into species available locally. I haven't yet looked in the main marine shop, but one shop has a species described as 'Hippocampus spp. Black seahorse'. Evidently, this isn't helpful since most species could be described as black, and they have no real distinguishing features. So are there any species particularly they could be, and what are their max sizes?

The scientific name does not really do anything as all seahorse species are Hippocampus, and spp. could refer to any species really.

Seahorse.org is by far the web's best seahorse information source. They have a nice active forum, and are extremely knowledgable.

I might go back there anyway, they had some interesting characins I wanted to find out about. I'll take a camera with me.
