next month or so i'm going to start getting ready and i'm gonna be breeding dwarf seahorses. i was wondering if anyone knew a good plant to put in there 50 gal that they can hitch on? basically good hitching plants. thanks!
Are you sure you don't mean "non dwarves" or your "5 gallon"?
All I can really suggest is quarantined and treated chaeto, certain types of caulerpa, and non caulerpa macroalgae (depends on the species...some stick away from caulerpa in small tanks because it may become sexual). Any details on the set-up?
As a note, if you did mean dwarves in a 50 gallon, you'll 1. never find them or 2. they'll die. I've only heard of two attempts with larger tanks- one went "okay" and another was put on hold. 1-10 gallons tanks are much better.
can't a big 'school' (i know they don't really school) of them in a 50 gal? it won't bother them being in a large tank will it? half will be well well planted and the other half will be more like a sea bed. mainly sand.
i don't really have everything yet, i'm just wondering, so i can start looking for them.
Like said, there have been plans on doing the same thing, but its extremely hard. Feeding them is a real big hassle- I doubt they'll get enough to eat in a 50 gallon. If you really want them (and breed them) start with a 5 gallon. Once they start populating that one, try a 10 gallon. Although it's harder to feed them in a ten gallon, it's a lot of room for them to roam and ensures you have enough space for however many you get from breeding.
