For those who have used this, have you noticed a reduction in nitrate levels?

It says it "controls ammonia, nitrite and nitrate" i guess it means it can help these stop climbing as the Purigen deals with the "organic waste"

Therefore i guess it doesnt actually reduce the nitrates once the nitrates form, but is supposed to help interfere with the whole ammonia, to nitrite, to nitrate process?

I've heard some really positive things about this product, from scanning threads on here and other forums. It also seems quite reasonable in terms of ££££

If I remember correctly, it converts Ammonia to ammonium, which is still used by the filter, but is less harmful to the fish. I'm guessing that the ammonium would still turn into nitrite once processed by the filter. On the bottle it says it reduces ammonia and detoxifies nitrite and nitrate. So I don't think it reduces them the same way it does with ammonia. It simply makes them less toxic to the fish, but I am not sure how it does that. So IMO you won't see a reduction in nitrate levels using prime. For that you would have to use something like zeolite, that actually removes ammonia from the water and stops it from being converted to nitrite and nitrate. But you are then dependent on the zeolite and removing it from a tank may cause a mini-cycle.

IMO Prime is a really good product, for both cycling and dechlorinating. It is very concentrated 1 ml treats 10gal or 37l, which means a 100ml bottle will treat 1000gal or 3,785L. So a small bottle lasts a long time for most people. Other than that Prime tells you how much ammonia, chlorine, and chloramines it removes. With the recommenced dose it will remove .6 mg/l ammonia, 4mg/l chlorine, and 3 mg/l chloramines. It also tells you how much you can use in an emergency, 5x the normal dose. This way you know how much is safe for your fish and how much you need to get rid of, say 1ppm of ammonia.

oi oi

Purigen, not prime LOL
