Dave makes a good point here.

For years people have followed an article from the 'fitch family' detialing how much light Amano would put over his tanks. However Amano freely admits he uses pretty low light. I have no idea how the 'fitch article' was calculated but it has led many Amano followers to use superlight :)

Now Ada and Amano could themselves stick this fact on their website but do they? No they sell high power units and then by some means they make these high power units produce low light. Naughty really because it means you are using 150W to get 50W light. However it pleases the ADA lover that MUST have 'high light' without giving the highlight. lol Then they think the ADA system is great and all is well and good :)

How do they throttle the light back from these high power units? No idea, maybe they have tinkered with the bulb or ballasts or even made sure the reflectors are pretty inefficient but the tests taken when all the ADA tanks were setup at AFA in california showed that whilst wattage wise these lights were in the 3-4WPG level the PAR was closer to a 1.5WPG equivalent
