Seachem ammonia alerts

Hey guys i was just wondering if the seachem ammonia alerts work? It doesnt seem like they wood since they only stick on the glass. Does anyone know if they work well?

I have one and it works while I fishless cycled and seems to be working now. But I won't know until my tank has ammonia in it but it won't because it's cycled assumming I don't screw it up lol.
