Sea Urchin Food?

Does anyone have any tips for feeding sea urchins. I bought a pink urchin (I think) in a moment of folly at the lfs and he's chowing swathes through my corraline!!

I read on the net that they like kelp - can you buy this in the UK? is there anything better?

I dont think u can stop em eating coralline

On the plus side coralline clogs live rock and makes it a less effective filter so he is helping your tank

I don't think that's proven to be true...


Also, the urchins poop out coraline, so it helps spread it around a little bit. They eat other kinds of algae too.

Agreed, although I also agree that it's pretty impossible to prevent them from eating coraline. If it's there, they'll munch

Thanks everyone - I'll get some nori - I'll be happy for him to have a bit of a chew here and there, but at the rate he's going through it there'll be none left by the end of the week!!

Interesting about the filter/poop aspects - I shall view him a little more fondly now
