I have lost two of my 6 peppered corydoras (paleatus) in the past two weeks. These are the first corys I have ever lost. The first one was lost after I tried to put two bolivian rams in my 29 community and when I woke up the next morning I found a dead cory with a large cut/scrape on it's side. I assumed it was the rams so I returned them immediately.
I had a power outage yesterday and while I did my best to keep things maintained and everything seemed fine, when I woke up this morning I found one of my corys upside down gasping rapidly, he wouldn't move or even attempt to swim away from me. Not wanting him to suffer for even longer than he already had, I euthanized him.
So this leaves me with 4 corys left, my question is: Are they fine staying in a group of 4? Since they are already a part of the tank they shouldn't be shy right?
I would like to try to add a different species of cory to go with them but if it's a necessity to add two more peppered ones then I will.
