Hi,

I have a large freshwater fish tank which used to contain a few bala sharks along with other fish. I have decided that I wish to convert this tank into a saltwater tank, so I have not been restocking the tank as fish have died of natural causes. I also have a few small tanks that I plan to move the smaller fish into once the balas have all died. My large tank is now down to just one of the balas and he has since been hiding in the back corners of the tank. Is there anything I can do besides buying more balas to comfort this fish?

Bala need to be kept in groups to be happy.
What about finding him a new home, or lfs .

What are your water parameters? Balas are naturally skittish therefore, need to be kept is groups or with a school of other fish to feel safe. When they are babies they are not very skittish but when they get older they get very skittish and jump a lot. Be sure you have a full hood on your tank.

hi
i had one bala on his own for quite a few weeks, and on advice i went and got 4 more for him to play with, the diffrence in him was immediate, he was so happy to be with fish of his own kind, he was just like yours before that, very quiet, and kept out of the way, i hope you decide to get more, as they really are beautiful fish when happy, my first one is ill at the moment, but i have every faith in him getting well again, and back to his old self..at which time i shall be upgrading my tank to a mansion for them

good luck with your decision
