Scardy Fish

I have two golden australe killifishes in a twenty gallon tank, along with a sparkling gourami. I am planning to get some rams (one of the smaller breeds). I have had this tank for about one month, and my fish are AFRAID OF THE FILTER!!!!!! No ki9dding, just for an experiment I turned it off for a while, and the came out of hiding. Can anyone recommend a quieter filter. Right now I have some top fin external hanging filter. Also, I thought some nice live food would boost their spirits. I have a large coke bottle, window space, and (virtually) unlimited air stones. What cheap and easy live food could I cook up for my little guys?

baby brine shrimp? loads of hatching vids on you tube
you could get a worm culture (possibly grindal worms?) going to keep you in healthy live food.

I meant healthy as in you've done all you can to ensure they aren't carrying anything.

Is it the noise they are frightend of or is there excess flow? If its excess flow then try cutting the top and bottom off your coke bottle and cut up the side of your new cylinder. Hook one part of the cylinder over the hob and stick down with tape and get the other to curl under the outflow to baffle it. Theres a vid somewhere on you tube but can't find it.

Just ot clear this up for future posters, my fish are NOT in a twenty gallon coke bottle. So...I have the coke bottle...on the filter? Could you make a diagram?

Found a Step by step instructions.

They cut the top and bottom off the soda bottle and then slit it up the side. Hooked one side of the cut under the flow then the natural curve takes it over the HOB filter. The outflow from the HOB then flows into the curve therefore cutting down on the excess surface aggitation that bettas and gouramis don't like.
