Agreed 100%I don't know how/why it's held that beta's can live just fine in such confined spaces. Then again, I don't see how they survive in those tiny bowls in the pet stores? You think if the lack of O2 didn't kill them, ammonia would. Perhaps in such a confined space, the water becomes acidic so ammonia is converted to ammonium, just like when fish are shipped long distances.
Still, confining anything in very small spaces seems very cruel to me. But sadly, we have fish forced to live in small places and/or bad water, dogs that never get to run, birds that never get to fly ..... If we can't (or won't) give our 'pets' a good home, we really shouldn't have them.
