Seems a bit small for a Betta? If it is ok then I think I may have just sorted out my problem to my other thread.

Cheers

I'm getting one for my work table. But the one im getting is slightly larger one and the one i am getting doesnt have gravel but a weave that is a bio filter as well

Thats very cute. I could see any of my bettas being happy in there. With the filter you won't have to do as many water changes if you can keep it cycled. But is there a top you can put on it? Otherwise, you risk losing your betta to jumping.

That tank is 1 US gallon. Which is totally fine, but the filter is totally over-kill, pointless, and will annoy the poor little Betta. :/ It also needs a lid. Filtering/cycling is really unneccessary in such a small tank.

IMHO, you would be much better off spending that $30 USD (50-60 pounds?) on a nice 5 gallon Minibow with a tank hood and everything. Or, a glass 10 gallon with a hood!

you can get a 10g starter tank from petcetera for only 40bucks now

At my LFS it's only $30 for a 20 gallon starter kit, comes with like river pebble gravel, six silk plants, bio-wheel filter, light, air pump, heater & thermostat. It's a good deal I reckon.

Wow... It costs like $30 for a 10 gallon set up here. It includes a filter and a hood with lights. That's about it. I don't even think it has one plant in it. There is NO gravel, I know that.

I wish we had good deals like that around here! :/ I'd probably have most of my boys in one by now....if I could get my husband to spring for it.

:-( is that a light above it? would that not alter the temp. when you turn it off/on? How much does it hold? surely the fish would jump out?

OMG I must be in a grumpy mood but I love Bettas and to me that is making the betta into an ornament. Get a house plant instead and buy the betta a more suitable and probably cheaper home.

If those are like the ones I've seen at my LPS then they hold about a US Gallon, depending on how much gravel and stuff you add in. and yes, the light would effect the temperature of the water, but since it doesn't come with a heater it helps keep the water right around 76 farenheit. not sure about that filter being over kill... they had one set up and running at the LPS (Been there for a couple of months now) with maybe 1/8th an inch of gravel on the bottom, one silk plant and a little fake rock, and the male VT thats been in the tank is fine with the filter, which is about the size of a small adult female hand, if even that. It doesn't gush into the tank, it trickles. ^_^ Last time I looked no one had bought the betta that was in it... I'm tempted, but at least he's in something bigger than those cups. Thankfully, since this store doesn't sell many betta's, they only get about 5-10 males each shipment.

I actually bought one of these as a gift for my mum. It cost £45 with a betta, gravel and glo in the dark ornament. The first night the betta jumped out so we had to resort to putting clingfilm over the top which kind of spoiled the look! It doesnt have a heater so i think thats what the light is for. I have since taken the filter and used to filter a 2.5 gallon betta tank and it works just aswell as on the original tank. If i didnt have a plastic lid on my new tank i would use the light aswell (it has a blue bulb). My lfs have one set up but without a lid the evapouration is horrendous... Personally i think thay are fine if you are one of these people who put bettas in jars but we soon put the betta in a bigger tank...

Just a note... these things do come in different sizes, the smallest being less than half a gallon, so do check the volume of the cube before purchasing, just in case.

I have found the included filter for these setups to be quite handy on my 5 gallon tanks, so they're worth saving. In fact, I actually bought a 1g setup online because it came with the filter, and buying it with the tank was cheaper than buying the filter seperate.

Lids will be a problem, because of the unusual shape. They sell these needle point grid-type things at craft stores that can be cut into shape, they might do for ya.
