so we did a water change and suddenly like over night my tank is covered in white maggot like things (1/8th cm? long) on the glass. what is this stuff and will it hurt my fish or shrimp?

the tank is a ten gallon w 4 female bettas maybe 5-8 ghost shrimp and a nice snail outbreak. this is just lovely. and we did the water change like three days ago.

what is it? how do i kill it? should i remove my bettas and shrimp? i have a 5 gallon they can go in for a bit. also how do i get rid of these dam snails. they wont stop having babies. how do i kill them? THE SNAILS ARE TAKING OVER WITH THE MAGGOT THINGYS. HELP ME!!!!

I'd have guessed planaria....
If you could google image this, see what you think and then post back?
No good on snails although depending on the type they may be edible

nope not them. these are pure white and very very small. and they are ramshorns of some sort.

I had them.. my lfs just said clean the sides of the tank its not a problem he said.. he didnt tell me what it was though...Its like real small snow aint it.. looks like really small white stuff... an it clings to the side of the tank an as the water moves they sway in the water?plus i have 16 in my 12 gallon.. snails i meansoo annoying haha but they are gd to watch.. fast for snails haha

Have you added any new fish recently? It could be some live food that the LFS was using. I had loads of little things swimming around in my tank after i put my shrimp in and it all turned out to just be what the lfs was feeding the fish in the same tank as the shrimp (there was some very tiny white things in there too). They all either died off or got eaten :)

The white maggots will be Planaria more than likely. Its common in overfed tanks and/or under filtered tanks with wase sitting around. Just stop feeding for 3-4 days the fih will clean them up. Make sure to hoover the substrate etc.

Snails are fine, just remove them. Or worst case get some snail killer meds

thanks my boss said just wipe the sides of the tank and that should do it. as for the snails i guess ill just wait and see maybe ill get something to eat them.

i had one snail i couldnt bare to kill, so i put it in a one gal. and a couple days later, there was patches of white dots.. and some of them would start slowly moving across the glass.. it was baby snails :|
