I noticed a few days ago that the tail of one of my baby gold sev looked weird. It's pretty obvious by now - in case the pictures are not very clear, it's a little shreded with some white stuff on it, and it looks hard. The fish doesn't look very happy. There are four other baby gold sevs in the same tank and they look normal.

:( :( :(

Pictures #1 and #2 are the sick sev, and #3 is a healthy sibling for comparison. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Doesn't really look like he is sick to me. Not even finrot, which is the most common disease of the fins. He is probably getting nipped at. Isolate the fish, and add some Melafix. He should heal up pretty quickly.

ya, looks like typical fin nipping, most likely another sev claimed territory and when the new guy went in it, he got chased off with his tail fin getting most of the damage

Ox :good:

Agreed, put the sev into insolation if you can, with some good water changes, those fins will come back as good as new. If you cant seperate him, maybe you need to remove them all, re-arrange the decor, then place the sev with the damage back in first, then the others so they can re-establish their territories, you will still need some water changes to help those fins heal.

I gotta ask, what size tank are they in?

Thanks guys. I'll isolate him/her and see what happens. There seem to be some mild disputes but I don't think any of them is dominant yet (random pairwise chasing).

They are in a 120g tank - will need a bigger one when they all grow up but they are only about 1.5 inch now.
