Befor I get a grilling about the Satanoperca, plans are in place for a 75 gallon tank within 3 months. :good:

Now, what I would like to know, has the Lfs labeled this fish wrongly. ????

I bought what was labeled and looked like an Acuticeps, but after a bit of research it resembles a Jurupari. Not that it really matters as the care and sizes are all very similar, would just like to know for future reference.

Also, the Firemouth tends to be a bit boisterous towards it, I say "it" as I have no idea what sex it is (apperently it is very difficult to tell). There is no aggresion so far, they have only been together for a few days, will they settle in together or will he (the Firemouth) continue to bother it?

Edit:- Thought I`d add a complete pic of the setup. I think I`ve got a few months before it is over crowded
Your Thoughts?

Cheers Nelly. :thanks:

Have been googling the last couple of days and they all look the same to be honest.

My thoughts are favouring the Jurupari.

Thanks jayjay,

Great link very useful.

The photos above dont do the fish any justice, there are feint horizontal bars along the flank with no blotches (spots) present.

Cheers.

Edit:- Just found THIS and looks exactly the one I have.

Satanoperca Leucosticta "Gold Spot"?

ok mate i posted your pictures else where<hope you didnt mind>oh well did it.......everyone recons and says they have ones the same<jurupari>and a nice specimen at that so i think its a jurupari :good:

I read that thread on another forum nelly. It could be a jurupari, but I would back Satanoperca Leucosticta "Gold Spot". But when I look at the full tank picture, you can see the patterning better and it looks more jurupari...

Nelly,

I dont mind at all, just glad that you are trying to help.

And then the situation changes slightly. I had to remove the Firemouth as the "Jurupari" was being bullied and the fins started to deteriorate. Anyhow, after a few days on its own the fins look better, but what is now noticable there are lots if red and blue spots on the fins, more red one on the dorsal. Could this be a clue to the specific breed or is it common in all?

I will try and get some clearer pictures later, no digital camera at the moment, got stressed and broke it, so have only got the camera phone.
