Sand vs Gravel

Bollicks? Man, I'm going to English school when I go to France and I'm gonna be so screwed there.

I wanna get sand SOOOOOOOOOOO bad. Gravel is rather.......boring, I think. But if I switch from Gravel to Sand now, I'm gonna have to cycle aaaaaall over again.

Sand, sand ,sand, and more sand. I love sand tanks. I started my last 55g with rocks but switched over to sand. First few weeks of have a sand tank you will be thinking why in the heck did I do this. But after it clears you will like it. Also I would get some trumpet snails they like to live in the sand and keep it on the move. This way you don't get gas pockets.

Not in a filtered tank, you shouldn't. You might get a mini-cycle, but nothing like the first one. The majority of your good baceria live in the filter medium. There are some on the surface of the gravel, but not that many.

When I changed from gravel to sand in my 20g, I put the top layer of my gravel in a stocking, and laid it on top of the sand, hoping some of the bacteria would migrate over. Between my filter and my stocking, my ammonia and nirtite levels never rose, so it worked great for me.

Just waiting to set up my 2nd tank and I'm having sand in it, I've got gravel in tank 1 and I'll see how I get on with it. After a while I may switch them both to Sand or both to gravel or keep one of each. I know my corries will appreciate the move.

As for the other discussion, the correct phrase is "the dogs b*llocks" Cheese was being polite saying testicles, and it is a compliment, "the mutts nuts" or "dogs danglies" ore other common versions of it
