When using sand obviously when you see it in tanks in the store it looks all soft and good to look at it but thats becasue there is no water in the display tanks. Question is once you add the water does it still look ok as I imagine the sand turns all hard like it does when you add water. Does it make a difference which sand you use as my lfs has bags of it for like £22 each but I seen you can get at argos for like £3.

There's tons of discussion here about Argos and which of various brands of playsand work out best. Especially since you look to be UK, there are probably members who can lead you right to the closest good sand around the corner  .. or discuss brands that have different grain sizes. I've noticed that some folks are able to find sand with larger grain sizes which has been mentioned to have various advantages (which escape me so I may as well just shut up! )

Hi, Most people here, including me use the Argos play sand. Once washed well, its fine to use in aquariums! And looks great too!
