i was wondering if you could just pick up some beach sand...boil it then let it rest in aquarium water for a weekish then use that in your tank?
or is that completly foolish???
and also what about shells and wood and rocks frmo the beach..?
THANKS!!

cant see any reason why not. now if you lived on the east coast of northen Scotland, you could get pure white sand and coral off the beach. if you dont get caught doing it lol.
Shells well some say yes some say no. for me if its quite fresh, and the outer glaze is still intact, i cant see a problem.
Rocks should be ok after a boil clean and a couple of weeks soak in tank water, test for everything before you put them in and then in a week see if it makes a difference, if the rock has brown or rusty stripes, it probably not worth the risk. do a forum search as there is a really good thread covering rocks.
wood too is usually safe after cleaning and the same soak and tests as the rocks. but carefully bake them dry after the soak.
