So I got a new tank from a friend, I've only just started setting up my 2.5gal in the past couple of weeks which I'm going to transfer into this new tank (6.5gal) so I don't currently have all the equipment including a siphon. The tank originally had a few platies, 2 amano shrimp and a fairly large snail.

I decided to fill up the tank with water while I wait for water conditioner to be delivered, but due to not having a siphon I decided to leave a bit of the remaining water in there.

I've left it overnight and I turned on the light this morning and there seems to be tiny little things in the water, maybe a dozen or so. They look like a single grain of small sand and do seem to be swimming around, there is no cause for agitation in the water. Any ideas what they are?

Probably going to completely drain the tank anyway and give the gravel a good clean. Just be interesting to know what they are, its not something I've come across before, or atleast noticed. I would attempt a photo but they're so small I don't think they would come up very well. Just worried they're some sort of parasite.

Cheers

They are probably copepods or amphipods and they are good food for fish. It means that the tank was healthy.
