I think my BN plec (atleast I think it's him) is kicking up a lot of sand during the night as he seems to now have lots of nooks and crannies for himself, the sand is then finally settling on the plants, wood and rocks.

Will the sand affect the plant growth if left? It is getting stuck on Java Fern and Moneywort, Vallis are fine as you would expect.

There is not a strong enough current to push all the sand off the leaves...I got a Turkey Baster the other day which helps clean this away but it is rather tedious and I am not sure I need to do it....?

I am thinking I'll just plant things like Vallis only in the future so I don't have this issue?

Any guidance on this please? Should I be so bothered? I've only started using sand recently since upgrading tanks...

A soft-bristle toothbrush is something I will use to get fine sand out of rocks, plants, and wood.

I have a big 50ml syringe that if you fill with water and spray from above the water surface, it sprays everything, maybe something like that would work for your tank?

I am sure I have an old one somewhere, I'll have to give that a shot too. So I assume I should get rid of the leaves at the very least, I assume it hinders photosynthesis...

What you mean like my turkey baster :) I am getting quite accurate with it now...also finding it useful to place food such as brine shrimp and daphnia into the tank without getting it disperses everywhere in the tank water...

Me thinks I'll slowly replace the broad leafed plants with Vallis over time, I like the stuff on it's own to be honest, just trying to find some of the spiralling kind (Vallis Spiralis?)

Yeah, thats one of the easy to grow ones...

I was making a list with them all on so i think this is the one you mean

Yep, that's the one, no sand getting stuck on that! I currently have normal Vallis too that doesn't spiral but it just grows too ruddy quick! This Spiralis variety is a little slower growing I think...
