I just picked up my 210 gallon tank. I will be using a fx5 for filtration. I have decided to get a stingray. The spelling eludes me at the moment but I have decided on a hystrix for its supposed grown size of 18". The tank measures 72x25x29 I want to do 2/3 the tank bare sand bottom and 1/3 will have some rock and driftwood for other fish to hang out. I was going to use playsand but have read its not so good. Some use pool filter sand other spend a bunch from the lfs. What is the easiest to work with and places to get it in nj?

Hystix disc most likely wont get that big but be aware the tail can be pretty much the same lenth as the rays disc. Have you got the ray already? You might need to upgrade the tank when it gets to a decent size to something a little wider. You should go with more filteration too. Maybe a sump or another fx5.
Play sand will be fine it just needs cleaning well before putting into the tank.
I got some aquarium sand from pier aquatics which is heavier than normal sand so didnt get sucked into the filter so easy.

No I haven't gotten it yet. I bought a house and was having it remodeld so the tank would go in the wall of my media room and mancave so everyone can enjoy it. I also have not gotten any media for the filter. Any suggestions on how to stack it

If i remember correctly from when i last cleaned my filter i have the thicker blue pads at the bottom and the fine white pad in the top basket. As for what's under the round pads i have a mix of media, i don't bother with carbon.

If you're not on a water meter take a look at Devotadly discus's HMA filter and a read on 24/7 water changes. Saves you worry about the amount of water changes needed when keeping them.

Having a tank viewable in a couple of rooms would be brilliant.

I have something similar from my salt years I have a 3 stage rodi I'm taking to the new house. I have a few fluval filters left over I was wondering if I could put my heaters in a fluval case and run that as a heat Exchange instead of having the heaters in the tank. I didn't get the tank drilled or anything when I bought it cause I didn't want a sump still don't really
