Sand First Or Water?

I dont think it matters to much. If you put the sand first make sure you put a rock or plate on top of where your going pour the water in. Otherwise your sand will go everywhere and you'll end up a bare patch in middle of your tank which you have to put the sand back into.

place the washed sand in first then place a large rock or plate in the bottom then fill with water pouring it in on top of the plate/rock this stops it been stirred up as much and i found imo the water clears faster

Doesn't matter, either way your going to have to stick your hand in there and rearrange it.

most people will say sand first, if you do this than the sand settles much faster. which makes sense if you think about it. But there still will be a lot of stir up no matter which way you go.

Water first = no air under the sand.

I have had this problem today... I did water first and water went really cloudy then i did sand first and it made a mess....
Try putting a few inches of water in, putting the sand in and then placing a rock or something in the middle to empty the water onto.... just do it really slowly so the water is settled by the time it gets near the sand....
