Sand And Laterite

i want to start planting my 29 gallon brackish tank but i dont want the laterite to come above the sand like it so oftern does in my planted 10 gal brackish tank is there any way to stop this? or does this happen to you?

I assume like in my tank, the laterite comes up when you vacuum the sand. I get a bit up then, or when I pull plants up. I don't let it but me... i just push the bits back under if I can. Some people put a layer of mesh between the sand and laterite, then poke holes when they plant. I haven't done this, so I dont know how effective it is.

I mixed an inch of 2-3mm smooth natural gravel with the Laterite granules - with an inch of just the gravel over the top - then with an inch of sand over that. Minimal Laterite leakage and a great real plant substrate...
