Having seen photos of some other tanks and reconsidered stocking ideas I've had an idea(tm) :hyper: I'm thinking of creating a "sandpit" by using slate to divide the gravel and create an area for sand. Any reason why this wouldn't work / be a bad idea?

Cheers,

Gordon

I have done it and it works well.

One thing I will say is that you need to seperate the two to stop all the sand dissapearing into the gravel.

I used an old 2 litre coke bottle, cut a strip out of it and used that to seperate them under the substrate, and then place some large decorative pebbles at the top, with lots of little pebbles to make it look more realistic

Hope this helps

is the tank empty? If so then IMHO you should silicone any gaps in your barrier and then silicone the barrier to the bottom glass so that there is a "sandtight" seal between the gravel and the sand. I haven't tried this. I just dumped some sand in a corner of my 55 and I like the look of it.

My plan is to add the sand when I move the tank in a few weeks, so although it'll be dry I can't wait for silicone to dry. I'm going to silicone some soda bottle onto the barrier as suggested above.

Thanks for the suggestion :good:
