What decor do you have in your tanks? Ive heard certain types of rocks lower and higher the PH.

Thanks I thought no-one was going to reply.
Could be because the new tank is empty well I have just added an empty log.

Im not sure, i was hoping someone else would answer that for you. I dont think its the log. Have you added anything to the water e.g. chemicals etc?

What type of log, Drift wood?, Bog wood?

by new tank, do you mean it is uncycled/cycling?
if so the pH will swing during the cycle.
to give you a basic understanding of water chemistry
click on the link in my sig

Thanks I do not want to appear stupid but I am cycling the tank with stability.
My lfs does not add ammonia so they do not help and I dont understand what to buy as there are severeral Amonium, amonium nitrate etc and how much to add. My first tank never had it I just cycled it on Stability and it took around two weeks.
This time I have added some filtrer material and have used my old water when doing changes to add to decholrinated water.
The tank has been empty a week I am now adding things in prep for the fish to hide in etc. but water stats were done proir to adding wood and the lower reading is in my old tank which is full of fish 7.6 whereaas the new one is 8.
I have managed to keep fish but I am ignorant not always stupid but scared .
