Saltwater to freshwater

Is it possible to convert a saltwater tank to freshwater. If so, how do you do it?

I've never done this myself but I do have a few ideas . . .

Will there be fish in the tank while you're doing this?

No, there will be no fish in the tank while I'm doing this.

Saltwatter Tanks are usually, just drilled and sump ready there shouldn't be much problem unless it is already a running setup you can use it the way it is. If it is a saltwatter setup you most likely will have to take out all your rock and sand because this will be too akaline for most freshwatter fish it may stay with african rift lake cichlids, what filtration does the tank have already?
