Hello all,

My first question on the boards :) I have a new marine tank and set up a protein skimmer (External Venturi Driven) called a SA-2014 WEIPRO. It's been running for two days now and I'm noticing a lot of salt crystals accumulating on the OUTSIDE of the skimmer. Theres no water leaking just these salt deposits. Is this a common thing? Anything I need to do/worry about it? I'm monitoring the salinity and it's dropped slightly over the last two days.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Is it in one place on the skimmer and where abouts?

Sounds like it might be leaking im affraid, mine did cos the hose connection on mine wasent infact water tight so i had loads of water deposits till i siliconed it up.

It shouldnt really do this so make sure your floor aint too wet.

Its on a few different places. The first thing I checked for is leaks and there aren't any at all. Theres no water coming out from anywhere, just this dry salt 'crust'.

Cheers.

Hmm could be just evaporation, can i get a pic to see? Thing is i also used to not see a leak but it slowly drips out and i mean slowly.

Photos a but blury but you can see where the problem is. If it's slight evaporation will the salt deposits clog it up or do I need some silicone for a repair job? Thanks for the help by the way.

Seems its def leaking there, well not leaking as such but more like its enough for water to get into there then dry out causing the salt deposits. What i would do is silicone it up, so turn the skimmer off then pout some on (make sure its dry) then leave it for 24 hours, then run it again and see if its still happening.

Good luck :good:

Agreed, miniscule leak there, allowing some salt creep to get out. N1z is right, a little silicone should fix the problem right up :)
