Hi all. I recently bought a 68 gallon setup, and I am looking into a number of different possibilities for it. I am really going for simplicity here, and I will probably stick to one species and understock it. I want to have a black background, black sand, a large piece of driftwood, and perhaps a few large pieces of black slate. Because the backdrop is so dark, I will probably go with bright fish, though I don't want a lot of different colors.

The tank would need to be brackish, right? I hate that there isn't a profile on TFF for sailfin mollies. I see all sorts of information on the 'net, but I would really just like one fairly detailed profile on keeping them in aquariums. It is fascinating to know their original habitat and whatnot, but not overly neccesary for what I'm doing here.

Would this setup work for sailfin mollies? I was thinking of having 6 mollies, either 6 males (would they fight too much?) or 2 males and 4 females. I'm not interested in purposely breeding them, and if they did have fry, I probably would just leave them for survival of the fittest. I don't want any plants in the tank, so besides the driftwood and rocks, there probably wouldn't be many hiding places for the fry. I *might* try to raise a few to give back to the local petstore, but I will be going off to college in the fall, and my dad will be taking over the tank (we've already discussed it) and I'm sure he won't be messing with the fry much. If the adults don't eat the babies and some survive, I will just take them to the LFS.

Yeah, that'll work. if you want all one sev then i would get all females because males will fight a little. they will have plenty of room which is good but if you do breed them, probably no more than two babies wll survive per drop, although that's if your lucky. try to make some hiding places for the fry and females if you do get both sexes for them to get out of the way of males.
