Hi,

What are really safe levels of ammonia and nitrite. I think it would be excellant to have this information added to the tank cycling pinned topic . Thought should post it here for new people entering.

Water PH 7.5. When does the ammonia/nitrite levels get toxic or what is acceptable?

Thanks

amm 0ppm. nitrIte 0ppm.

NitrAte upto around 40 acceptable

Ammonia and nitrite should be 0, they can soon kill fish as they rise.
Nitrate about 50, once it get to 100 starts to harm the fish.

As mentioned, the only safe levels for ammonia and ntirite are 0. Anything else indicates that there is a problem in the tank. If you are cycling with fish, you need to keep them both under .5 at the most by doing partial water changes as necessary.

Your status should be Ammonia:0 (if tank is cycled)
Nitrite: 0-0 (if tank is cycled)
Nitrate: 5-50 (if tank is cycled or not)
