Hi all
Today when I got up all my molly fry were all swimming around quite merrily in their hatcher free from the jaws of my other community fish.
I went to work at 1pm this afternoon and returned home at 5.30pm.
Apparently somewhere between me going to work and my 6 and 5 year old son coming home from school at 3.30 my 2 year old baby, (see here in the dogs bed)

managed to lift the lid of my tank and released every single baby in the hatchery.
It is likely that they have all become fish food. :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(
I don't blame my fish for eating the fry or the baby for releasing them, it happens, she didn't know any better, all she sees is mummy opening tank and doing things and she is trying to copy.
I am very upset though so I have been out and bought some fish to fill the gap that the molly fry I would have been keeping would have filled.
:fun:
I would have had some lovley babies, they were balloon molly too. I have just bought two young balloon mollys and on close inspection I have a male and a female (hopefully they might breed and I may have some more babies next season.)
My lyretail molly and dalmation molly have been up to tricks over the last few days so she may be pregnant too, it is too early to tell at the moment but I will be watching her for gaining weight.

(hopefully they might breed and I may have some more babies next season.)

Next season?? Don't you mean next week?!?!?!?!?

Sorry to hear about the fry. Hopefully the next batch will work out great!

That is so cute ,poor dog can't get in its bed for your baby,

Sorry about the fry.

The baby was having its revenge for being forced to sleep in a dog basket! seriously though, I'm sorry about the molly fry :(

Hmmm, can you believe she actually forced the dog out of his bed and climbed in and went to sleep.
The dog basket used to be her moses basket, when she was no longer in it we put it upstairs on the landing ready for it to go in the loft, before we had chance to get it into the loft the dog started climbing in it so we decided to let him have it as his basket.
Shame about the fry.

They are very small for balloon mollys. It is unlikely to be next week as the female is not any fatter than she should be. I know what you are getting at though. I hope they do breed though, I won't be able to keep the fry but it is nice having them and watching them grow. The fry that the little one released were almost 3 weeks old and I had got quite attached to a couple of them. :-(
Never mind, lesson learnt the hard way, don't put fry where baby can reach them! These things happen

 ........

so sorry about the fry
your pink baby was probably just "helping" the fishies get back home (into the tank)
hehehe i call human babies pink babies ever since my sister pointed out that i refer to all my living creatures (even my plants) as my "babies" :*)

Kill the child, I mean try to secure the tank lid.

Hmmm, the problem is it is one of those lids and tanks where it is extremely difficult to secure the lid, short of glueing it on with waterproof superglue, not a good idea as I need to be able to remove the lid to clean the tank.
I have had to move the net out of her reach too as she will go fishing if she can get hold of it, she has killed a guppy and almost killed my favourite betta Sinatra from her fishing sprees!!!!
I have put everything well out of her reach now including food as she has also been known to feed the fish if she can reach the food, she once fed my goldfish a whole tub of flakes, I had to do an emergency clean out of the tank!!!

sorry to hear about your fry. your baby is so cute in the basket. just out of curiousity, what breed is your dog? looks alot like mine, half pit bull half rottweiler.

Hi kaz petts :)

I'm so sorry about your fry. Do you think it's possible that some may still be hiding?

I just love that picture. I want to nominate that sweet dog for POTM. Perhaps you will get a second for it here. :D

The dog is a mix of some description but we have not had him since from him being a pup, he was a rescue dog. I believe he is part short hair border collie with loads of other breeds mixed in, possibly doberman being one of them.

I suppose there is a very slim possibility but highly unlikely, I don't think they would have had chance of finding shelter before any of my other fish got to them, even if they did get low in the tank i have quite a few bottom dwellers so it is likely that they have all been eaten.
:byebye: :byebye: to all the babies (with a little luck I will have some more soon anyway)

Thanks to the 2 who have voted my dog Spyke for POTM. It will be interesting to see just how many votes he gets.
