Hi all :) I am new to all this fishy stuff so I may need lots of help, my first prob is I have a femail guppy and she just does not swim happy with the other she just swims slowly at the top of the tank and sometime at the bottom she also does not seem to be eating she not showing any signs of stress or gill probs just staying on her own and slow swiming can any one tell me what is wrong, :( she just looks so sad any help would be great

I have tested the water and all is good I think

nitrates 0
nitrites 0
TH soft
tac soft
ph 7.5

This is a French test but it seem the same as English one just in French

I use stress zyme and stress coat

most of my fish are new I brought them saturday but I had 3plattis already and they are great just the 1 guppy, on sat I brought 5 rubby nose 6 guppys 4 femails and 2 males and 8 neons

my tank is 82ls

I have no plants but for plant moss and gravel I have a filt and a pump and a heater, the temp of the tank is at 27c

I really can not see any think wrong with my setup i have also had the tank for 1year so it should be cycled ok
if any one could give any help it would be great thanks

youre tank only has bacteria to support the fish you had before you bought the new ones, the new ones will put a strain on the bio load, so you will need to keep and eye on ammonia and nitrates for a few weeks and keep the ammonia and nitrite at 0 always this can be done with water changes.

your tank is over stocked so do not add anymore fish!

How many fish can you put in a 82l tank then if i am already over stocked

have to agree you added too many fish at the same time. do you have a test for ammonia? if not grab yourself one and keep on top of water changes. the added load of fish will, over the next few days put a strain on your filters bacteria.
there is gonna be some ammonia and nitrite rising if you do not keep up with water changes until your filter catches up :)

your guppy could be sad for many reasons she may be stressed from the move,, she may be sick, she may be being bullied or perhaps just not a good guppy. you do get a lot of sick guppys who just dont last long due to in breeding and over breeding

But my tank as been running for about a year now how can it not be good and I alway do a 15% water change every 2weeks
see I did have lots of platti but I sold them to a friend so I could get other fish like guppies
that was about two weeks ago

but I will keep an eye on the ammonia thanks for that I will see how she go's she looks a little happyer now still on her own but moving more around

Just one other thing Spishkey how is it that you said that you have 30 goppies in a 60l tanks when I have only 22 fish and I have a 82l tank and I would say the neons are a little smaller than the guppies too

so how many fish can I have in my tank

my guess is that spishkey uses the 60 litre as a grow out tank for fry.

you can have roughly 60cm of fish so that is 12 guppies or 15 neons etc

truck is spot on there, yes a large portion of my guppys are fry
and when my guppys reach adult stage, they are smaller than ordinary hormone filled lfs bought giant guppys, about half the size really! (red coral neon guppys)
i would also like to point out i have a very strict cleaning rota, doing partial water changes every other day with gravel vacs. not a good idea for people who dont have the time. there are no strict rules with stocking, you just have to use common sense and know how far you can push your tank.

also i have to point out i did not say you were over stocked, just that you added too many fish all at once, ideally you should have spread them over a period of a few weeks/months :) so if you are going to start attacking people who are trying to help, please get your facts straight first :)

now onto the stocking, there are many 'guides' that can help you stock a tank, the regular 'one inch of fish per litre' is widley used for beginners with new tanks.

once the tank is well established ( a year+) you can often stretch that rule to 1.5 - 2 inch of fish per litre, but that depends on your filter and cleaning regime :)
good luck, hope your guppy feels better soon.
