hi I am new at this whole livebearers only had mollies for a few months. Bought all of them when they were pregnant. My Balloon Molly had babies a month ago tomorrow and we have them in a ten gallon we recently put the aqua clear 20 on the tank and tied a meshing bag over the intake tube. there is no gravel or sand in the tank but the tank it cycling again after a water change. and so is my other 10 gallon take with more ballon mollies and platies that i fished out of my 40 gallon. and it has just a filter that is running off of an air pump to filter the waste out. should there be gravel/ sand on the bottom of the two ten gallons or should they be left bare. and all my mollies are freshwater mollies.

Welcome to the forum. You are doing fine Candace.
The sand and gravel are mostly for us to not need to look at fish waste and to allow us to decorate the tanks. You can even grow plants in containers if you don't want a substrate.
The 10 gallon tanks would do better for cycling if you could steal some filter media from the established tank and use it to jump start the filters in the pair of 10s. Just tuck some media into each filter and let its bacteria population spread to the newer filters. Meanwhile you are in a fish-in cycle situation in each of those 10 gallon tanks so do your research on that process. Thre is a link to a thread on fish-in cycling in my signature area.
