If you have a large tank whats the best solution for filtration? The tank I'm getting is around 70 gallons(uk) and comes with a fluval 304. As this won't be enough for the tank I'm thinking of getting another 304.

Bear in mind that the following may be a little tricky to follow and I want to keep the tank as free from equipment as possible.

When running the two do you have to run them seperately? I'm thinking of linking the inputs and outputs so that there are only two pipes in the tank. Or could you have the output of one going into the input of of the other and then back into the tank, so in effect the same piece of water is being filtered twice  Also, what are inline heaters like? They look alot better than the usual stick in the tank type.

That should keep you going for a while................ :D

I run 2 filters on my tank, but run them seperately.

By doing so, the water in the tank is turned over twice as much. i.e. more water is filtered per hour.

Also, I've just ordered a Hydor inline heater which is due to arrive tomorrow.

I'll let you know how well it works.

Just thinking, there would be no point to connect the two filters so that the output of one goes into the input of the other as the powerhead things wouldn't both push out what they could. So, if you have two could you join the two outputs/inputs together with a Y pieces and have wider tubing going into/out of the tank. This would allow the same quantity to be filtered with less tubing entering the tank :S

I think it's time for bed

Interested to hear about the inline heater

Running 2 filters separately on both ends of the tank is a good idea as you get better water distribution and far fewer 'dead' spots. I run 2 on my 125 and am actually thinking of putting a 3rd on.

Karlos,

The inline heater is in. First impressions are very good.

No effect on water flow or noise.

I've set it up on the outlet with a flat head nozzle (The other has a spray bar). In effect, I now have a warm jet stream !!!

I'll keep an eye on the temperature and post again if I see any probs in the next 24 hours.

I have the same size tank you do (320l) and I run 2 Eheim externals on it. They are connected to the same plug as far as I know (was like that when I got it) and are at opposite ends of the tank. I always prefer 2 filters to one in larger tanks, especially long ones.

Just a quick note.....

I bought a new Fluval 304 yesterday from "Pets At Home" in Exeter..... £60 :D

Everywhere else I've seen is selling them for about £120 ;)
