Just wondering what the running cost are for a small fish tank.
Actually because I am currently involved in a dispute with my electric supplier and what they have told me an aquarium costs...

So at the moment I only have a Juwel 125L, lights are on a timer for 6 hours a night, it is filtered by the Juwel internal filter and a Tetratec.....

So what do you reckon that would use in electricity....???

what is the wattage of ur lights?

My single internal filter draws 5 watts, obviously 24/7, the lights are 28 watts,on for 12 hours 0700 to 1900,the heater is 100W and obviously is only working for a few minutes here and there to keep the temp from dropping...

From those figures u can work out the amount of KWhours i use.. Urs will be similar (less due to lights, but more on heating/filtration)

Probably about the same as running a 60-100W lightbulb 24/7, as a quick estimate. It really depends on the filter, lights, and how much your heater needs to run.

A big reef tank can draw quite a bit of power, after all some people run them with multiple 250-400W metal halide lights, skimmers, multiple powerheads, pumps from the sump to the main tank, electronic controllers, heaters, etc.

For the average small freshwater setup though, you're a very small fraction of that.

Would you say that a small aquarium like a juwel 125 would cost between £20-£30 per month...??
