I have a Amazon Sword that has a 6"stem growing with new leaves at the end. The leaves are about 2" long. Is there a way to cut this off and re-plant it, or should I just leave it?

Thanks

Where exactly should it be cut? I'd like to plant it in the gravel, but I guess it needs roots before I do this? Will it grow roots eventually if I don't cut it?

Thanks

Yes, it will form roots if you leave it on the stem. Just leave the plantlet on the stem until it forms lots of roots, and it should fall off by itself, but if it doesn't after a while, just cut it as close to the plantlet as you can. Then you can plant it.

I agree with guppygirl, wait until the plantlet forms lots of roots before cutting it off. I did this with mine, waited until there was a huge mass of roots, and it is now growing very nicely. My fish really seemed to like the tangle of roots.

I just got a couple of compact amazon swords and within 3 days, one had a plantlet growing on it. How exciting!

You might be able to encourage it to form roots by lightly wedging the plantlet into the soil (perhaps by placing a small rock on the runner)

Yeah, Dubby beat me to it. Anchor the runner so it lies on the surface of the substrate. It will root eventually anyway however.

ive got one too...its got roots and about 6 leaves!i want to leave it and see if it falls off if not itt cut it off and replant it
