Hi guys

I upgraded my tank around 10 days ago and transferred my existing filter over so it was already mature and it also came with another external that was mature so I am running 2 externals on it (350l tank, 1 tetra ex1200 and 1 rena xp3)

Apart from the filters everything in the tank was new, decorations, wood etc. I actually only have wood, rocks and some java fern mainly in the tank.

Anyway, I added 15 Rummynose which were quite large as opposed to baby ones, around an inch or a touch bigger each.

I also added a bottle of tetra safe start which I know everyone is sceptical about but I've found helps avoid fluctuations when adding fish.

Long story short, one by one I'm now down to 10, and it's a common theme with every one of them. They all have bright red noses and are shoaling great with my other tetras, but every now and then I notice one has got a white area on the very tip of it's nose. Once I've spotted this, it's usually within 6-8 hours that the fish dies.

Ammonia and nitrite have stayed at 0 and because it's all new water nitrates are low. I've done one 25% w/c already. Ph is 6.6-6.8 and temp 25 degrees.

I know these fish can be sensitive, but does anyone know what's happening here? To be honest, the place I got them from (abyss Stockport) is good but I did have problems when I originally got neons - 3 of the original 8 died within a week and the rest are still around and happy to the day. So im wondering if sometimes this happens with tetras?

The only issue I've got at the moment is the wood in there is developing the clear fungus commonly seen, but I've heard this is harmless. The water also has plenty of particles in it but this is because it's all quite new and the wood, rocks, plants and sand are probably still settling and giving off bits here'anf there. Ive ordered some purigen and a powered gravel vac to help with this.

Any ideas are appreciated.

The lad I got the tank from also gave me a UV sterilizer... Is it worth fitting this? It's a 36w jbl - I have no clue with these as I've never used one.

Other tank mates:

2 angels
4 apisto
5 neons
2 dwarf gourami
5 sterbai
4 pitbull plecs
1 l288 ple

I keep them at 25 degrees.

Many thanks to anyone who reads this and offers help.
