My fluval U2 is a load of absolute #105###ty crappy not worky #105###ty crappy waste of space. its so unpowerful and rubbish. has any one else found this to be the case

No, but my two U4s need regular maintenance, at least once a month to revive the flow. This involves gently squeezing the sponges and the central chamber in removed tank water, rinsing the inside of the main body in removed water, plus using wet cotton buds to clean the impeller and its cavity at the base of the unit (latter is biggest cause of flow reduction for me).

I have the fluval mini, u2, 3 and did have the 4 til I upgraded this weekend to an external, and they're all fine. I clean them quite regularly but no problems here.

Nope, they are excellant filters. IMO second only to JBLs internal filters which are uber powerful and can be filled like an external.

As N0body But The Goat said for cleaning regularly but also the white pipe that runs up the filter for the return (to the tank). Can be accessed from the bottom of the pipe when the bottom motor is removed, if a leaf or dirt gets in there, it blocks and slows the return.

If you dismantle and clean every aspect of it and it still doesnt work, i assume its still in warantee!? return it and get it sorted, all shops will sort if its under warantee, if its out of warantee, then its likely a fault down to maintenance.

If you bought it online then they ought to sort it but... you know... i always say its worth buying from a good LFS for the good after service because they should just take it off you and swap it over, no problem. Assuming you can prove you bought it there... but if no receipt then shop dtails would appear on your bank statement if bought on card and that will do.

There is nothing wrong with the filters just because you alone have a problem with yours ;)

I had a Fluval U2 on my gold fish tank and it was fine, so I went with a Fluval U3 on my tropical tank (125 ltr) and it never kept the water clear no matter how much cleaning you gave it..

I gave up in the end and went with a Fluval 206 external.
