Hi all,

In the near future i'm going to be setting up a 125 gal for some large fish. My sailfin plec will go in there and i'll be adding an Oscar, a Firemouth, a Convict, a Green Sev and more to be decided (mainly large Cichlids, 1or 2 more).

I would like your opinions on adding my RTBS to this mix. He's been in my 20 gal for 3 years now (fully grown) and is fine but if i can give him more room, i would like to try it.

I would imagine its risky but not impossible and would appreciate your comments/thoughts. I would particularly like any comments from anyone who has any experience in trying this or something similar, I know most of the theory stuff and would rather have actual facts or examples.

Thanks

I have a shark in my 125 with growing cichlids and I never see him. My shark looks just like a Columbian but with black 'racing' stripes. The LFS where I bought it called it a Columbian but I don't think it is (but at the same time don't know what it is :dunno: ).

My shark is now about 5-6 inches and stays hid ALL the time. I've never seen him get picked on at all and he often hides in large caves along with Oscars or Pacus. I've also never seen him come to the top for food but he is still alive and growing so he is getting food somewhere (well, obviously from my messy Oscars).

I would assume he isn't living the happiest of lives but at the same time I don't think his health is being neglected. I plan to move mine within a couple months to a larger environment.

As I add up my little bit of experience... I would think yours would do great for a period of time and as the Cichlids get larger and more intimidating, he will hide more and more and as the Cichlids reach maturity you may need to move the RTBS back to where he is now. But I’m sure he will enjoy the extra room while he has it!

Thanks nc_nutcase, i think the answer will be to try it and keep an eye on things. He's no small fish at 5 inches but he will be dwarfed by the Oscars and co. eventually. You're dead right though, I will always have a plan B.

Anyone else got any thoughts?

Nobody got any thoughts? I'm guessing no-one has tried this then, which is not a good sign. :/
