I may be getting a new 20L or 30 gal tank, and am thinking about having a small group (5-6) tiger barbs and maybe a RTBS.
Will that fill it up or will there be room for one other something? I know the RTBS will need some caves, lots of plants, maybe a nice rock or 2. I figure on leaving a nice open space for swimming for the tiger barbs.
What else do I need to know?

I had to take my rtbs back to the shop last week, this was because he kept my 6 tiger arbs in a corner of my tank and every time they tried to move he bullied them back.
This might not happen to you but i thinka bigger tank might be in order to keep the peace rtbs are very terratorial

Yes...

Perhaps a RTBS and something like danios, or hatchet fish? these could stay out of the way, especially if you use floating plants...

Hi, I have a RTBS in a 30g, he is very territoral but I have put some bogwood in a corner and he has taken to that, no one is allowed near it!!!!!!!!!!
