I am new to the forum and recently returned to the world of aquaria. I had aquariums growing up and a saltwater set up when I was married. A small condo doesnt lend itself to large tanks so I decided to get a tabletop, 5 gallon freshwater tank. In it are my Crowntail Betta named Rover, one female cherry barb, one algae eater, and 2 golden mystery snails.

Here is a photo of my tank....

You can probably see a male cherry barb in the tank, but he was torturing poor Rover and since the tank was set up mainly for HIS benefit, I took out the male and put him in a glass vase with my philodendron. I am going to try and find him a new home. All other members of the community get along just fine. Rover just made a new bubble nest last night, so I guess he is content now.

Welcome to the forum & back to the hobby :D

Rover looks lovely and certianly sounds happy :)

if your going to rehome the male cherry though i'd rehome the pair, a 5 gal isn't really big enough for them.

do youhave any idea on the ID of your Algae Eater? if not if you can get a pic of it we can ID him for you :) i only ask as most get too big for a 5gal

Thank you! I was trying to find a species that might be somewhat compatible with Rover and cherry barbs were recommended, although I know that this doesnt always work and in my case it didnt. Started out Rover was the bully but then for some reason, the tables were turned and the barb started going after Rover AND the female barb, which is why I removed him.

The photo isnt the best...I took it with my phone. I need to use my camera to take some better ones. Will do that and take a photo of my algae eater so he/she can be identified....I cant remember the name that was on the tag, silly me. :)

ETA - I figured out what he/she is....an oto. :)

some stores get otos mixed up with other fish, flying fox for example xx
tank is lovely, and Rover looks lush
