I recently got a ropefish, and he had some little white specs on him, but now he has a lot more all over his body.

possibly ich

add salt, turn the heat up to about 82 degrees, add some treatment

just some suggestions if it is ich

IME ropefish are not happy moving
they often produce an excess slime coat as some kind of
defense to the stress.

when you say small white dots, does it look like salt grains or is the white bigger than that?

The disease is called white spots. The reason this disease is caught is because the water is too cold. You should adjust the temprature and add Methalene Blue. (add until water turns dark blue)

well, actually it is caused by a parasite (if it is white spot); fish are more open to it if they are subject to any form of stress, just like we get colds more when we're stressed, but it doesn't have to be temperature: crowded conditions, a move, problems with the water stats, anything that can lower a fish's resistance. And again, the parasite has to be present in the first place; just chilling your fish won't bring it on unless the parasite is already there.
The reason why we put up the temperature to treat ich is a different one: the parasite goes through 3 stages, the first one is when it is attached to the fish and at this stage it is immune to treatment, so a raise in temperature is intended to speed up its lifecycle and make it let go of the fish.
Most hobbyists prefer using more modern ich medications than Methylene blue, as this can have an adverse effect on the filter.

not part of the skin, like little white things on him a little bigger than a grain of salt

if the spots look like this ( pic below), then it is ich/ ick. This is a parasite and ofter can kill the whole fish population in your tank if left untreated. The white spots are usually raised, and look about the size of a grain of salt. A good medication for ick is rid ich ( http://www.novalek.com/korgd5.htm )

that is it I believe, not sure though
I already put melafix in, and I have some ich medication

Nox-Ich

edit: i just added nox-ich to the tank, now the water is blue
i hope that was it

ok so it is ich, that is fairly easy to cure. Try not to overdose with a whole bunch of medications. if you have, then i would recomend making a water change before adding more. Keep adding the nox-ich everyday for a few days after the spots are gone, or else it could come back. I would also reccomend increasing the water temperature a few degrees. Removing any activated carbon from your filter will also help.
