Hi,

We recently got a new 75 gallon tank. Snagged a bunch of filter media and some gravel from our 30 gallon tank to get it "colonized", and it seems to have cycled very rapidly.

Anywhoo, in the 75 gallon, we now have one giant sailfin plecostomus (about 10" long), two tiny severums, one New Guinea Rainbow, and a handful of red-eyed tetra's... all but the severums were from the old 30 gallon tank. The 75 gallon tank is pretty wide open in terms of tank decorations.

The question is, knowing that the severums will grow quite large, is there room for much else in this tank? If so, what else might play nice with the severums? I'd love to get another medium sized cichlid... we're also thinking Opaline gouramis. Key to us is the health and happiness of the pleco (very dear to us) and the severums (which are both beautiful to watch).

Thanks!
-Ryan

what about a blue acara or a festivum. i have no personal experience with either but from what i've read about them one or both of them might work.

good choice with the severums. they're one of my favorites :good:

As you said, severums get pretty big, personally I wouldnt add anything else (is it a 75 UK or US gallon tank), if its Uk then you might be able to get away with a firemouth or something similar). Though I would be conserned for the plec, those things get huge, like potentially 2ft.

Thanks for the responses! It's a US gallon tank.

I thought about an acara, festivum, or a keyhole cichlid.... I think I'm just suffering from a lack of patience while the severums grow! :) Now that I've realized that, we're holding out for a while, and see how it goes.

The severums are unbelievably excellent! They seem to know to look for me when I get home from work, as I've been giving them a quick snack then. Almost have them eating out of my hand, and it's only been about 2-3 weeks! Beautiful, and very personable fish!

Indeed, the plec had long since outgrow the tank he was in... absolutely loving the 75 gallon tank... much more active now. He's (she?) a very dear fish to us, and was what helped me convince my girlfriend that we needed to get the 75 gallon tank. As the plec grows, we'll get a bigger tank when we need to!

Thanks again!
-Ryan
